I replaced the carb a few weeks ago for a decent Weber DGAS 38 but had a problem of hesitation when I put my food down. Well it was more like someone threw an anchor out the back and my head would almost hit the windscreen, then it would accelerate. I knew I had to replace the emulsion tubes but had a little difficulty getting the correct ones. They seemed to be only available on US sites and none would send them to Europe. Eventually got them from a Canadian site.
Well I took it for a spin after and the difference took me by surprise (even a little gain in power is a big leap percentage wise). It was like someone slapped a small turbo on it. Now it may only have about 100bhp from the 1.9ltr engine but it makes even legal speeds feel like I left the warp drive on full.
Next is the fuel pump. I have to replace the old mechanical one for an electrical pump in order to provide better volume of fuel to the carb at high revs. The fuel bowl in the carb empties too quick, not a good thing to let happen. Also it is easier to replace an electrical pump in a hurry. I have all the bits, now I just need time.
