evening all.

thought I'd pop in and leave a little report.
Ive had the car running and being used daily since thursday. I did a small problem when i first used the car for work on monday night. It drove fine with 5psi of boost (no knock or det). but when i started it after work, the boody oil cooler hose split. emptying all the oil on the staff car park.
so the following morning i spent an hr on me bk in the rain changing oil hose and laying down two bags of cat litter on the spilt oil.
i borrowed a spark map off cally 4x4 (who's finally got his c20let running on MS) and although is meant for 20psi, its left my engine running some good safe timing under boost. so is down on full power.
power delivery is a little sharp with the no boost-max boost time being a bit snappy at times in stop start traffic. but at 3500rpms im at max boost and hitting the overboost protection (fuel cut).
the car is very smooth tho , idles a bit lumpy when cold but im not using the idle control valve.
with the over safe spark map i decided tonight to up the boost by adjusting the actuator. not sure on psi increase at the moment due to my laptop freezing everytime i hit 6psi boost.
overall im kind of pleased. i got an excellent deal with adrian flux insurance after churchill kind of laugh at me when i mention turbo charger. so all mods insured and dvla should have received pics of the turbo install to get the v5 changed.
all i need to do now is keep upping the boost till it knocks again and back it off a bit and then get it on a rolling road and dial in properly.
the ve analyis program in the tunerstudio software is brilliant. driven carefully i managed 32mpg.
ive got a few vids and pics on several laptops to sort out and i'll get them on here. think i will invest in a turbo rebuild kit soon because i rememberd there was some side to side play in the shaft and with all the tuning (running rich and lean hundreds of times now while trying to get it to run right), it must have caused some damaged.
what else can i say except, I WANT MORE BOOST! lol

Happy days. Glad you got it sorted... I just hope it stays that way. Many people (myself included!) would have given up a long time ago. Fair play and maximum respect for persevering with it  :good:

Its a sad day people, the astra has gone....
needing more time for tuning and money and with christmas upon us. i had to make the choice, to keep her and the agro from the wife or get rid.
so i decided to sell her. dont get me wrong i will miss the tuning side and tweaking everytime i turned the key, but i wont miss the headache of lack of info about tuning without spending many nights trawling through page after page of info.
after lots of consideration i decided to swap the astra for a 1992 subaru impreza wrx 280

proberbly not the tidy'ist example but underneath is solid and the engine is untouched. came with lots of mot and tax.
anyways its been great being part of the forum and sharing the astra with you all. i will proberbly pop back from time to time and you neva know i might be back at some point with another crazy project.

just because you haven't got the Astra anymore, doesn't mean you can't be a member on here. There is a sub section for non Vauxhalls......
