My Astravan
« on: March 29, 2011, 07:39:20 PM »

Good news people.... I'm back with a new project! Today I got me a 2001 (Y reg) mk4 Astravan with a 1.7td. She needs a bit of engine work, but for the price I paid for it, I would have been stupid to turn it down. The price paid I hear you ask? £150. Generally speaking, she's in good condition, just needs a damn good clean inside and out. There are a few little dents and scratches, but she 10 years old. But she is in a lot better condition than the shed was

Plans for it are to put the wheels off my deceased mk3 sport on, fit my stereo equipment as it has the factory standard tape deck and get it running. Then a few little tweaks, like coupe seats and front bumper with front fog lights and electric windows. No amazing plans as it will be a work horse, just subtle stuff.

Pics tomorrow

Doesn't surprise me that it needs a damn good clean... don't think I've ever seen a van that doesn't

Plans sound good though, love a slightly modified van, don't need much to make them look good :)

it was a toss up between an estate and a van.... and as the van came up first, so i bought it. it's only an Envoy model (basic), but it does have the slightly better Isuzu lump under the bonnet. I'll let the pics do the talking tomorrow

I'm still getting my head round how cheap I got it for. I just hope it's a cheap and easy fix. At worst, I'll be looking at a replacement engine

apparently the head gasket has gone and te previous owner carried on driving it until it stopped.  :suicide: Allegedly it still runs, but very rough and way down on power. even if it does require a new lump, the van was  cheap enough, so i'm not too fussed about fitting a new lump

Well, as promised heres some pics.... and yes I have cleaned it since I took the pics. Also binned the factory fit tape deck in favour of my Sony head unit, 10 disc cd changer and eventually my Sony amp.  Vauxhall really did put a bargain basement stereo in it, it didn't even have fast foward and rewind let alone tone controls.... and no rear speakers.  ::) Cheap skates. On the plus side, I do have just under half a tank of diesel  :dance1:

Next up is to fit the wheels that were on the shed. Already found a new owner for steelies that are currently on it. Then make a start on cleaning the interior out. Empty milk containers and empty coke cans don't really do it for me. Oh and it stinks inside.

So what do you all think? And be honest

You want an honest opinion...

I think its great mate, defo got some potential, a few cheeky mods and a bit of colour coding and thatll be spot on.

and get rid of that stink.

Cheers mate.  :good: I'm impressed at how good the bodywork is on it. It was originally green, but had a respray back in 2008. Just as well really, as I don't get on with green vehicles. The last green car I had got trashed within the first 3 days of my ownership, by a jealous smack head. I had the last laugh though, 2 weeks after he did it, he o-d'ed and kicked the bucket.
