Some news...
« on: June 18, 2010, 10:32:58 PM »

Hi guys, sorry, not been around much recently. Don't really have an excuse... but thought I'd share this with you guys..

As you know, I drive a black Astra H 1.6 SXi....... or do I?  :scratch_ones_head:

On Saturday night, I part-ex'd it for another Astra H, and well, I've had it 6 days and the modding bug has already hit me... hard...  :yahoo:

Spec so far is:

Vauxhall Astra SRi 1.9 CDTi 150
6-speed manual gearbox with SPORT mode
Full exterior pack (Spoiler, sideskirts, front splitter, rear splitter, 18" alloys)
Partially debadged rear
Richbrook Vauxhall "Anti-Theft" Valve Caps
Vauxhall Velour Astra Mats
6-SMD Interior Light
Insignia Washer Jets

So pictures are needed  8)

This was on Saturday night after I picked it up and watched the footie:

The new Vauxhall velour mats:

The new interior light:

Improvised Astra Owners Network "stickers"... I shoved a few flyers in the windows   :haha:

I then gave it it's first wash... How it was before:

Rinsed with a Karacher pressure washer, then went for the wheels using TurtleWax ICE Alloy Wheel cleaner:

Cleaned the bodywork with Zymöl Natural Shampoo:

Opened up a Meguiars Smooth Surface clay kit and started to clay the car. This was just after the bonnet   :fie:

Applied some Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing:

I then polished the paintwork with Autoglym Super Resin Polish & the glass with Autoglym Car Glass Polish:

Finally waxed with Meguiars Cleaners Wax:

Last night, I went out and debadged some of the rear. How it was before:

Removed the Vauxhall griffin:

Removed the VAUXHALL lettering:

Finished result, for now:

Fitted a set of Richbrook Anti-Theft valve caps, as when checking the tyre pressures the other day I managed to break two of the standard caps...

This part is a bit of a work in progress... I'm doing some under-bonnet modding   8) Gonna be gloss black & silver when it's all done... Picked up a can of Black Sapphire paint and got to work on the engine cover. It's a bit patchy and a few paint runs where I applied it too thickly, but for a first attempt from an amateur painter, I don't think it came out too badly

Tomorrow's job is to find a Halfords store that has a few cans of moonland paint in stock so I can paint a bit more engine bay, also my boot strip & front grille. If I can get that, then I'll also be popping into a Vauxhall dealer to get a new ASTRA and CDTi badge for the boot strip. The CDTi badge on the Astra H is silver and red for the top performing version, the 150BHP engine, which is what I've got... but in the new Astra J and Insignia, the CDTi badge is silver and black, so I want one of those  :good:

I'm loving your new car mate.  :good: Looks like a really nice model. Being the 150 cdti, I bet it shifts when you tell it to.

I want a mk5 Astra, it's just a shame my (limited) funds don't allow for it.  :'( I hope you got a deal with your old one.

Cheers for the comments guys  :good:

My parents said to me this morning, "Why can't you just leave your car alone? What's wrong with how it looks now?"... So I said, "Nothing wrong with it... I can just improve it and make my mark"

I then went out and bought some paint  8)

Took the grille off, unclipped the chrome and put the grille back on the car... Looks a bit... odd..  :haha:

Sanded the chrome down and gave it a few coats of primer...

Then gave it a few layers of Moonland paint...

Not overly happy with the colour match at the moment, but after a little while it started to lighten up a bit which is good. I'm sure it'll be better once it's dried and then lacquered   :good: So left it in the garage overnight to dry :)

Planning on doing the boot strip tomorrow as well. Which means I have to do some more debadging and painting... but I popped into Vauxhall on my way home and ordered a chrome ASTRA badge, and a CDTi badge with the black Ti... both badges from the new Astra J. Will be delivered on Wednesday, so will re-badge it on Wednesday if I paint the strip tomorrow...

Well it dried quite quickly, so I lacquered it this evening, and that also dried quite quickly, so it's on the car now! I also found my DSLR's battery charger, so put some juice in it and went to get some decent photos. I can finally give me phones camera a break :haha:

Guess what? I've been attacking the car with paint... again!  8)

Before:

Pulled the boot to pieces:

Took the strip off:

Pulled the remaining badges off:

Sanded and primed:

Painted and lacquered:

Pieced the car back together and here's the result:

Picking up some nice shiny chrome ASTRA and CDTi badges from VX on Wednesday  :good:

Cheers guys  :good:

Picked up my new chrome badges from Vauxhall yesterday  I'm not sure if the Astra badge is straight though. My colleague tells me it is, but I'm not sure... Will see

And courtesy of HERC on AON:

Going to give it another clean on Saturday... then Sunday I've organised a rolling road day up at AMD in Essex. Anyone's welcome to come if they want, but I think all the rolling spots are taken. Will see how it performs, and also getting cruise control supplied and fitted while I'm there
