My Rent-A-Wreck
« on: November 10, 2009, 11:34:33 PM »

Hi all,

Here is my Astra Sport Hatch. As you can see it is a mk3, and isn't in full health (like her owner) at the moment. I have repaired the indicator lense (before any one says anything!) She is finished in Graphite Mica (95L) and in my opinion, the best colour Vauxhall ever did. Under the bonnet is the factory standard C18XEL engine, which if I'm honest isn't a bad engine. Not sure what gearbox is fitted as my last mk3 Sport (also a 1.8, but an estate and in the same colour) had a different gearbox and that was a F18cr.

My plans are to keep it as near standard as possible (only uprated stereo equipment) and to restore her to a good condition. I bought her in 2007 off eBay as a Cat C write off, but spent quite a bit getting everything sorted out. One step forward, two steps back.... the joys of motoring.

The list of jobs to do are as follows:

Water pump, current one is leaking
Timing belt kit, I only did the belt when I got the car, now needs complete kit doing.
Clutch is starting to slip when I give it the beans. The release bearing is also making some funky knocking noises.
The exhaust down pipe needs replacing (advisory on last mot)
And finally, it needs some cosmetic surgery, loads of scratches and dents.

Feel free to pass comment, good or bad

It photographs very well. It doesn't look nearly as bad as you imply. I like modified cars but it is good to here when some are kept standard.

Thanks,

I had just washed and polished her, so she doesn't look too bad in the pics. Also helps to use a 3.2 mp camera phone to take the pics.

The front wings and the boot lid have been changed, so not the original ones for this car. The boot lid came off a CDX that was in a breakers yard, as the original one was a little creased where the Astra badge was. And the front wings were replaced because I got the hump when the h/ gasket failed, so kick the living s*** out of them. Took two months to find replacements in the same colour. The front passenger one isn't perfect, has a number of little dents by the front indicator, but a lot better than the original one.

And to think I completed an anger management course.  ::)

After looking at the pics of your car again Damian, I still think you're being too hard on it. Compared to most MK3's it's immaculate. Certainly puts mine to shame.  :blush2:
