I fully agree with you mate.
I personally blame the insurance companies for the amount of uninsured drivers on the road. If it wasn't for them expecting people to fork out £10000000 for a car that's worth 50p, I could almost guarantee the number of uninsured cars on the road would dramatically decrease. Obviously, there would still be a few on the roads... people with no licenses and disqualified drivers etc.
I am paying £746 fully comp (and nearly £1300 third part fire and theft) on a Astra Sport 1.8 16v on a '95 N plate. The Astra is a group 12 car, and I have insured it for £400 (being a Cat C, it is worth less, hence my valuation). Now, my old Omega, which is a 3.O Elite estate, on '99 V. The Omega is a group 15/ 16 car, so logic would dictate that it would be more expensive on the insurance. You'd be wrong on this. Fully comp, £643 and almost £1100 third party fire and theft. Where's the logic in that?
Years ago, I bought a Renault Clio 1.4 RT on a '91 H plate. The car was valued at £250 as it was a class A shed, that even a scrap yard would have probably refused it. Anyway, as it was going to be my first legal car, I decided to get a few quotes for it. The cheapest one was nearly £3.5k, the most expensive was £6k! Over three quarters of the companies I spoke to declined to even quote me. My guess is they were either too tired from a** raping the entire country, or run out of grease.
It really ***es me off
