A dissappointing day
« on: September 15, 2009, 11:42:23 AM »

Not long got back from test driving a Vectra SRi 140. To put it bluntly, I thought it was pants. :bad:
Yes, it had leather interior. :good:
Yes, it had Irmscher badges and grill. :good:
Yes, it had a MFD that worked. :good:
Yes, it had a Irmscher double "D" tailpipe. :good:
All the above good points, but it still didn't convince me that it was the car for me. :sorry:
When I pulled away, there was a noise from the transmission. It only happened on pulling away in first gear, so not sure if it was gearbox or drive shaft. When I started the MFD informed me I had a tank range of 124 miles. Considering the fuel gauge needle was rapidly approaching the red zone, I thought this rather optimistic. After driving a distance of 10 miles max, the MFD then informed me I had only 96 miles left. Now I know I'm used to a diesel and should have expected worse economy from a 2litre ecowreck, but WTF is that all about. :scratch_ones_head:
I parked the car back at the garage and told the very nice salesman that I would think about it. ;)
I'm still thinking about it, but I'm also wondering what else £650 could buy.
Sorry for the war and peace style first post, If anyone is still awake after reading this, would they care to comment. :boredom:

i get about 360 to the tank in the V6 mike the mfd only calculates the amount of fuel you have in the tank and your active fuel consumption so if you rag it the conputer gets all confused at starts counting down....well mine does anyway
the noise from transmission don't sound great so walk away
now get a V6 and stop mucking about

start it up from cold (make sure it's stone cold) and just listen, make sure the cambelt has been done
and the rest is just common sense.keep it running while your chatting away
go back and have another tinker with it rev it from under the bonnet and just listen......

take it for a spin if someting apart from the gear box don't feel right check the clutch, if slightly heavy or slipping or just not right, very costly, if the box feels pants walk away  :good:

for that kind of money mate go and get yourself a nice v6 calibra, trust me you wont be dissapointed, and even though the are old and only a cavalier in drag ,they dont drive like a cavy , still make heads turn and pulls like a train, and if like me and you need more power you can go for a nice 3.0ltr saab twin turbo conversion(very soon,as soon as i can find one and find the money, lol)

This one is for sale on MK3OC. Is it worth me going to have a look at?
